Claire Tinker
Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader
Claire is a registered paramedic currently working as a senior lecturer and Programme Lead for the Paramedic Science BSc programme at the ÌÇÐÄVlog in London. Claire started her paramedic journey in 1996 and worked for the London Ambulance Service NHS in a variety of roles including Cycle Response Paramedic, London’s’ Air Ambulance Flight Paramedic and Clinical Tutor. She completed an MSc in Advanced Practice at the ÌÇÐÄVlog before leaving the NHS in 2021 for the University of Cumbria to launch the Paramedic Degree Apprenticeship Programme in London.

- 1996-2021:Paramedic London Ambulance Service: Paramedic in a number of roles including cycle response, operational duty officer, flight paramedic on the air ambulance, clinical tutor delivering paramedic training and apprenticeship programme provisions
- 2023 to date: Programme Lead and Senior Lecturer ÌÇÐÄVlog: Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science BSc Hons. Taken on the Programme Lead role in June 2023
- 2021-2023: Programme Lead and Senior Lecturer University of Cumbria: Programme Lead and Senior Lecturer Paramedic Science BSc Hons apprenticeship programme (London Area) Recruited a team of novice lecturers and developed the programme in collaboration with London Ambulance Service. Intake of four cohorts each calendar year.
Responsibilities within the university
As programme lead holds responsibility for
- Quality enhancement – responding to student feedback and monitoring the effectiveness of the programme
- The monitoring of students’ performance, and arrangements for introduction of new measures to address any recurring issues or problems
- The assurance of support and guidance procedures that meet the needs of the students
- Promoting, throughout the programme, the general issues of quality in learning and teaching, and looking for measures that will enhance students’ learning experience and engagement
- The monitoring of examinations and assessments, and proposals of measures to help improve students’ performance.
Senior Lecturer role includes
- The oversight and leadership of an academic module, planning and delivery of the taught content, standardisation of the assessment processes and supporting the students as they develop their knowledge and skills. Collect and act on feedback from students and lecturers.
- Supporting students as personal tutor – signposting to academic and wellbeing services.
